Poem for May 21

Japa Poem

April 24, 2:10 A.M.

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna. Chanting too fast? No, speed is okay, yet sometimes you think, “How can I recall and savor that Krishna attracts Radha and that Radha attracts Krishna and They meet in various rendezvous in Vraja, if I’m saying Their Names so fast?” But if I slow down, it doesn’t actually enhance lila meditation. Srila Prabhupada said, “One who cannot remember Krishna, let him always hear Hare Krishna, and then when he has perfected this art, then always he will remember Krishna, His activities, His qualities, etc.” (Letter to Sivananda, December 4, 1968).

JAPA POEM

If you chant fast, is it possible
to think of Radha and Krishna
and Their interactions
when They meet in Their
rendezvous? Prabhupada
doesn’t think it’s wrong
to chant fast. “One who cannot
remember Krishna, let him
always hear Hare Krishna,
and then when he has perfected
this art, then always he
will remember Krishna, His
activities, His qualities, etc.”
