Poem for Jun 27

Japa Poem

A person chants the name of God that he is attracted to, but Krishna is most powerful. A thousand “Visnus” equal one “Rama,” and three “Ramas” equal one “Krishna.” The Hare Krishna maha-mantra is the greatest mantra. It’s made up of the names of Radha and Krishna. It is quoted in the Upanisads, and Bhaktivinoda Thakura and Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura chanted it and advised their followers to chant it. Srila Prabhupada brought it out of India and spread it all over the world. He recommended it as the great mantra for deliverance. He gave his disciples diksa initiation with the order that they chant at least sixteen rounds on 108 beads daily. He started public sankirtana on Sunday afternoons at Tompkins Square Park. Crowds gathered to watch. Some took part in the singing. He led the singing of kirtana in the storefront temple three nights a week and every morning.

JAPA POEM

The thirty-two syllables of Hare Krishna are the greatest mantra.
The mantra is dedicated
to the names of Radha and Krishna.
It is authorized by
the Vedic scriptures and
the acaryas in disciplic succession, but
it was confined
within India.
Srila Prabhupada brought
it out and personally
chanted in America.
He gave his disciples
the diksa task
to chant sixteen rounds
a day. He took
it out to Tompkins Square Park
and sang
and many people gathered
and some joined.
He is the jagat guru of the Holy Names.
