Poem for Jan 27

Japa Poem

I don’t want to increase my quota without awareness of what I am seeking. I am not seeking liberation or worship of the Lord in Vaikuntha, and I am not seeking just a general cleansing of the mind. There are many helpful suggestions in these words that arrived here today by mail, and I should take them seriously. The contents of Rupa Gosvami’s verse contain the following points:

1. Chant with the tongue and mind.
2. As you chant, also remember the name, form, and qualities of Krishna. This can be done by regularly hearing rasika literatures.
3. You will be able to enter the spirit of the names of Krishna and Radha in Vrindavana.
4. While chanting, reside in Vrindavana, either physically or mentally.
5. By this process as you chant, material desires will not be able to enter. And thus Rupa Gosvami’s previous verse, about the jaundice of avidya, will no longer touch you.
6. Do all this under the affectionate guidance of the spiritual master.

JAPA POEM

I list points for the proper method
of chanting japa
that’s given by Rupa Gosvami.
Chant with the tongue and mind.
Reside in Vrindavana, either
physically or mentally.
The jaundice of avidya
(ignorance) will no longer touch you.
Do all these under the
loving guidance of the
spiritual master. These things
are possible to attain.
The devotional wisdom of chanting is
very powerful, easy
to follow but difficult
to fully follow out.
One can do it in the
assembly of advanced devotees.
