Poem for Feb 12

Japa Report

I woke at 11:00 P.M.
with a headache. I fell out of bed
while reaching for medication.
I could not get back to sleep.

I took my usual precautions against
headache. I kept my eyes open
during the first round of japa
for darsana. During the first
round of chanting, I chanted at
a moderate pace and silently.
I wanted it to last for as many
rounds as possible. My eyes
were open for the period
of the first round.
I practiced “just hear.”
By this method you just
chant and hear without any
other meditation.
I am satisfied to do this, and
I am capable of it.
There are higher stages of
perfection in japa, but
“just hear” is elevated in itself.
Anyone who understands
that the Name is Krishna Himself,
and who absorbs himself in
the transcendental sound vibration,
is achieving a rare stage of japa.
I met my quota after four rounds
with ample minutes to spare.
I turned to writing in my Japa Report.

Then I began my second set at
a moderate pace and silently.
I met my quota after eight rounds
with a few minutes to spare.
I turned to writing in my Japa Report.
